Clinical guidelines: what can we do to increase their use?

Evidence-based clinical guidelines are now a key component of health care in many countries across the world, although it is widely recognised that they do not always translate into clinical practice.

Richard Grol, Director of the Centre for Quality of Care Research (WOK) in the Netherlands and Heather Buchan, Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute of Clinical Studies (NICS) discuss strategies for closing this gap between the development and implementation of guidelines in a recent issue of The Medical Journal of Australia.
